Affibody starts sales of Affibody® molecules

Today, Affibody AB announces the launch of catalogue sales of its Affibody® molecules. These reagent products are designed for proteomics and bioseparation applications such as biomarker discovery, research diagnostics or separation of proteins, and present a cost-effective and well validated alternative to research use of antibodies.

As of today, Affibody AB's proprietary affinity ligands - Affibody® molecules - are available for direct sale to customers within industrial or academic research organizations. The main distribution channel will be the e-commerce portal www.affibody.com/shop.

The first products on the market are Affibody® molecules with specific binding capacity to high-abundance blood proteins. Removal of unwanted abundant blood proteins will significantly increase the sensitivity in the detection and analysis of the blood proteins that are present in lower concentrations. In the near future, Affibody® molecules that bind to other interesting proteins, such as tumor specific proteins, will be launched.

Affibody® molecules are highly flexible molecules that can be designed to bind to any given target protein, and thus play an important role in protein research. Affibody® molecules have well documented performance as capture or detection agents in various proteomics applications such as protein arrays and protein localization studies. Affibody® molecules have been shown to be superior compared to antibodies for use in affinity separation.

- This launch represents a significant milestone for Affibody. Direct sales of Affibody® products will increase our short-term revenue potential. The strategic decision to form a Biotechnology division was taken earlier last year to capture the value of the Affibody® technology in the rapidly increasing market of affinity reagents. And today we have taken an important step towards that market, says Affibody's CEO Torben Jørgensen.
